Overgrown's Apoli

by Overgrown

Overgrown's Apoli is a data-driven power system, and the library lets pack makers and mod authors give entities new abilities through JSON files.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverCustom license1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Powers are written as JSON files in a data pack, so a power can add a custom ability, mechanic or entire origin system without Java code. The library ships more than 100 built-in ability types that can be granted to an entity, along with typed actions that act on entities, block, item and meta targets, and a condition system covering seven context types. Custom recipes and loot functions can also grant powers, and data-driven skill trees control which abilities become available along a progression path.

The mod is the engine behind Overgrown's Origins and is required by Origins: Support, Overgrown's Origins and Andromeda Origins. It needs Fabric API on Fabric, and it is built on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Both sides must run it, so the server and every player need the mod. The license is custom and the mod is not open source, though source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are public.

Key features

  1. Data-driven powers

Each power is defined in a JSON file under a data pack's powers folder, with no compilation required.

  2. Built-in ability types

More than 100 ability types can be granted to an entity, covering many common mechanics out of the box.

  3. Typed actions and conditions

Actions target entities, bi-entities, blocks, items and meta effects, and conditions check seven context types before they fire.

  4. Skill trees and grapples

Data-driven skill trees gate abilities behind progression steps, and a physics-based rope grapple adds swinging, leaping and reeling.

  5. Disguises, minions and projectiles

Powers can transform mobs and players, spawn custom entities, projectiles and minions, or create player clones.
