Architectury API

by architectury

Architectury API is a multiplatform layer for mod developers: one set of calls maps to Fabric and Forge style loaders underneath.

What it does

Fabric and Forge style loaders offer different implementations for what is often the same idea, such as an event or a registry. Architectury API wraps both behind shared calls, so a mod written once can ship for several loaders. It contains more than 90 event hooks, a networking abstraction, loader and registry abstractions and an @ExpectPlatform annotation for static methods.

For players the library matters as a dependency: 1,189 catalog mods require it, including Roughly Enough Items (REI) and KubeJS. It runs on client and server, needs Fabric API on Fabric, and is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Shared event hooks

More than 90 events behave the same way on every supported loader, so mods register them once.

  2. Networking abstraction

Packets are sent through one API instead of a separate implementation for each loader.

  3. Registry abstraction

Game content is registered through common calls that map to each loader's own registry system.

  4. Platform-specific code

The @ExpectPlatform annotation lets a static method have a separate body per loader when it is unavoidable.

Questions

Why do players install Architectury API?

Because mods built with it require it at runtime, for example Roughly Enough Items (REI), KubeJS and Better Statistics Screen.

Does it need to be on the server?

Yes. Modrinth lists it as client and server, the same as most mods that depend on it.

Which loaders have current builds?

Only Fabric and NeoForge have 26.3 files. Forge builds end at 1.20.2, Quilt builds at 1.20.1.
