GraveStone Mod

by henkelmax

Upon death, GraveStone Mod places a gravestone holding the player's inventory items, so the items can be recovered later from that spot.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19 – 26.3

What it does

When a player dies, a gravestone is placed at the death location and the inventory items are stored inside it. The gravestone can be opened to take the items back. The mod runs on Forge and NeoForge, and both the server and every player need it. Files are published for 1.19 – 26.3, with Forge builds for 1.20.1 and NeoForge builds for 26.3 listed as the latest files.

The grave carries an obituary with details of the death: the player's name, the dimension, the date, the coordinates, and an image of the player with their equipment at the time. A list of every item held at death is included as well. Naming the grave in an anvil sets custom text on it. Jade is an optional dependency that can show grave information in-game. Players can also be given a restore command by an admin who sneaks and right-clicks the obituary, and the config can remove the obituary automatically once items are recovered.

The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public. Deaths in the void place the grave at the lowest buildable point, or the next free spot above it if that space is occupied.

Key features

  1. Inventory gravestone

A gravestone holding the items of the dead player is placed at the death location.

  2. Obituary details

The obituary records the player's name, dimension, date, coordinates and an image of their equipment.

  3. Custom grave text

Naming the grave in an anvil displays chosen text on it.

  4. Admin restore command

Sneaking and right-clicking an obituary gives admins a prepared command that restores a player's inventory, either replaced or added to.

  5. Void death placement

Graves for deaths in the void are placed at the lowest buildable point, or at the next free spot above.

Use cases

Survival servers

Players who die in dangerous areas can locate and collect their items from the gravestone at the death site.

Server administration

Admins can restore a player's inventory with the restore command, using the death ID shown in the obituary or logs.

Who it’s for: Server owners and players who want a recoverable record of where items were lost on death. Installation is needed on both sides, so server owners must add it to the server as well as players' clients.
