Death Keeper - Grave Stones

by LopyLuna

Death Keeper - Grave Stones changes what happens to a player's items on death: instead of dropping everything on the ground, the drops are stored in a gravestone at the death location.

NeoForgeClient and serverCustom license1.21.1 – 26.1

What it does

When a player dies, the drops are intercepted and placed into a gravestone at the spot where the death happened, so the player can recover them later instead of losing them to the ground. Gravestones can also be placed in the world, and the percentage of items lost on death can be set in the configuration. A Keep option keeps the drops from the gravestone safe, and entity drops are supported as well.

The mod is built to avoid clutter: when several deaths happen close together, nearby graves are merged into a single gravesite, so repeated deaths on the same spot do not fill an area with separate stones. Smart grave placement chooses a suitable position for each stone, and a grave lifespan setting controls how long a gravestone remains. Boss and mob graves are a planned addition noted by the author.

Death Keeper runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It targets NeoForge only, with builds for 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, 1.21.11 and 26.1. The license is custom and the mod is not open source, though the source code is public. Because it intercepts drops directly, it needs no special compatibility work with inventory mods such as Curios.

Key features

  1. Gravestone on death

Items that would drop on the ground are stored in a gravestone at the death location for later recovery.

  2. Configurable item loss

The percentage of items lost on death can be configured, and a Keep option protects the drops.

  3. Grave merging

Graves created close together are merged into one gravesite, reducing clutter where players die repeatedly.

  4. Smart grave placement and lifespan

Gravestones are placed on a suitable spot, and a configurable lifespan controls how long each grave stays.
