Default Options
by BlayTheNinth
Default Options lets a modpack ship its own starting settings and keybinds, so a fresh install no longer needs a hand-edited options.txt.
What it does
Normally a modpack ships an options.txt file that replaces whatever settings a player already has. Default Options takes a different route: the modpack includes a defaultoptions folder holding defaults saved earlier with the /defaultoptions command, and the mod applies them when the game starts. On a first run the player begins with the configured options, and later changes made by the player are kept when the modpack updates.
The mod also pre-fills the multiplayer server list from the modpack, and those entries stay editable after updates. To create the defaults, a player joins any world and runs "/defaultoptions saveAll", which writes the current options into the defaultoptions folder inside the config folder, where the folder should stay. The options.txt and servers.dat files from the root directory should be left out of the modpack. Client-side only, it requires Balm on every loader and Fabric API on Fabric. Builds exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.18 – 26.3, under All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.
Key features
Modpack-supplied defaults
A defaultoptions folder in the modpack provides the starting settings instead of an options.txt file.
Preserved player changes
Settings a player changes after the first run are kept when the modpack updates.
Pre-filled server list
The multiplayer server list is filled from the modpack, and those entries remain editable.
Saving current options
The /defaultoptions saveAll command stores the current options in the defaultoptions folder.
Fresh installs
Installations without an existing options.txt begin with the default options from the modpack.

How it compares
Options Rewriter also handles default options for Forge and NeoForge, and is open source under the MIT License, but it covers versions 1.18.2 – 1.21.11 and does not list Fabric. Remember My Txt is open source under the MIT License for Fabric only, covering 1.18.2 – 26.3. Across 1.18 – 26.3 and on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, Default Options is not open source.

What the author says
Instead of shipping the options.txt directly, you will ship a "defaultoptions" folder in your modpack which contains the defaults previously saved through the /defaultoptions command. This mod requires Balm, which must be installed alongside the mod.
