LambDynamicLights - Dynamic Lights

by LambdAurora

Light sources held by entities, such as torches and lanterns, emit light into the dark as the player moves through a world.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltClient-side onlyCustom license1.16.2 – 26.3

What it does

Dynamic lights come to Minecraft through this mod. An entity holding an item that emits light as a block emits light too, and so does an entity on fire. Dropped items that emit light also light up while they lie on the ground. Creepers grow brighter before they explode, and glow squids emit light, as do fireballs and fireflies while they fly. Items such as torches and soul torches do not light up while in water. Item lighting can be changed through resource packs and works with modded items.

Installation needs Fabric API on Fabric, and the mod is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt across 36 release versions covering 1.16.2 – 26.3. Only the player's game needs the mod, so it runs client-side only. The settings screen is reached from the video settings or the mods list and controls how smoothly the lighting updates. The license is a custom license and the mod is not open source. Snapshot builds are published as well. Public links exist for the source code, issue tracker and wiki.

Questions

Does Lambdynamiclights need Fabric API?

Yes. On Fabric, Fabric API must be installed in the mods folder next to the mod. On NeoForge the mod is installed without it.

Does the server need Lambdynamiclights?

No. Only the player's side runs it, so the server does not need the mod installed.

Which loaders are supported?

Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt are supported, and each has a latest file of version 4.13.0+26.3 for 26.3, released on 2026-09-15.

Does it conflict with other dynamic light mods?

Only one of these should be installed, since RyoamicLights and Sodium Dynamic Lights are listed as incompatible with it.
