LambdaBetterGrass

by LambdAurora

With LambdaBetterGrass installed, grass, mycelium, podzol, path and nylium blocks join their neighbors into smoother connected textures.

FabricQuiltClient-side onlyCustom license1.16.2 – 26.3

What it does

The mod changes how several ground blocks are drawn. Grass blocks, mycelium, podzol, grass path, crimson nylium and warped nylium connect to adjacent blocks of the same kind, and the grass around them is smoothed. The author built it as a Fabric alternative to the better grass feature found in OptiFine and MCPatcher, which the author found too rough even on its Fancy setting.

Snow and moss layers are a second part of the mod. When Better Snow is enabled, many blocks that are not full cubes receive a snow layer or a moss layer. An optional resource pack included with the mod adds the matching visuals, and the author shows examples in lush caves and on sculk veins.

Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed alongside LambdaBetterGrass. The settings screen is reached through the mod's configuration menu. The mod is published for Fabric and Quilt across 33 release versions, with snapshot builds included, and it runs on the client alone.

Key features

  1. Connected grass blocks

Grass blocks link to neighboring grass blocks, so large grass areas show continuous edges.

  2. Connected ground variants

Mycelium, podzol, grass path, crimson nylium and warped nylium blocks connect in the same way.

  3. Smoothed nearby grass

Grass next to connected blocks is blended, giving a softer transition than the default edges.

  4. Optional snow layers

With Better Snow enabled, many non-full blocks receive a snow layer.

  5. Optional moss layers

The same setting adds a moss layer to many non-full blocks, extending the snow effect.

What the author says

An actual better grass and snow mod for Fabric. Have you ever used the MCPatcher/OptiFine better grass feature? I did, and I've hated it immediately. The main issue is that it's too rough even at Fancy settings. That's why I made my own mod to fix this issue and provide an alternative to one of the OptiFine features…
