PuppetPlayers
by senseiwells
PuppetPlayers lets operators spawn fake player accounts, called puppets, that act and send packets to the server like a real player.
What it does
The mod adds a puppet command that operators can use after installing it. The join subcommand spawns a puppet at the position where a player last logged off, while spawn places one at a given position. The shadow subcommand makes a puppet join the place of an online player. Puppets are ticked in the correct tick phase, and their actions are simulated on the server.
Players can take over a puppet and leave their own body behind in the world, a feature called puppeteering. Puppeteering stays off until a server owner turns it on in the config file. While puppeteering, the player appears to other players as the puppet, and the original body resumes its position with its inventory once the player stops. Anything done through the puppet persists after stopping, and stats and advancements stay tied to the account. Because the account is still in use, someone can run a command that targets the player's name.
PuppetPlayers is a Fabric mod, released under the MIT License and open source. It runs on the server only, so players join without installing it. Files exist for 1.21.5 – 26.3, with 2.1.0+26.3 as the latest file. Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin are required.

How it compares
Carpet Org Addition is server-side and open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.19.4 – 26.3, and players outside the server need nothing. Fake AFK is also server-side and open source, but under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and it is published for 1.20 – 26.2. PuppetPlayers covers 1.21.5 – 26.3 with server-side use only and is not a general carpet addon.

What the author says
Modern, simple implementation of the fake players implemented originally in Carpet Mod. There are some fundamental differences to how these fake players are implemented in comparison to the original implementation in Carpet Mod.
