Fire Spread Tweaks

by Serilum

With Fire Spread Tweaks installed on a server, fires can be set to go out after a configurable delay instead of burning indefinitely.

What it does

The mod disables default fire spread. Vanilla sets the gamerule doFireTick to false in a new world, so fire placed in the game keeps burning indefinitely, while fires placed on netherrack, magma or soul sand still remain lit forever. Fire Spread Tweaks sets the same gamerule on the first world load and extends it so that fires go out. Trees and other blocks burn for a while before they are destroyed, which keeps buildings from burning down.

Burn duration is controlled by several config values. By default a fire burns for a time randomized between 10 and 20 seconds. The timeFireBurnsInTicks option sets the base time, with a default of 300, a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 72000 ticks; 20 ticks equal one second. When enableRandomizedFireDuration is on, which it is by default, MinRandomExtraBurnTicks and MaxRandomExtraBurnTicks set a random tick number between a minimum and a maximum value that is added to the base time, so the outcome can be negative.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source. It requires Collective, and it is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 29 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.3.

Key features

  1. Fire timeout

Fires go out after a configurable delay instead of burning or spreading until the world changes.

  2. Base burn time

The timeFireBurnsInTicks option sets how long a fire keeps burning, from 0 to 72000 ticks.

  3. Randomized duration

A random tick value between the minimum and maximum settings is added to each fire's burn time.

  4. Netherrack and magma exceptions

Fires placed on netherrack, magma or soul sand also go out, which vanilla does not do.

What the author says

Fire Spread Tweaks changes how fire behaves in the game. In the vanilla game when you set the gamerule 'doFireTick' to false, it will prevent fire from spreading but those fires will also remain lit forever. I didn't want my buildings to burn down, but fire should also go out unless it's on top of netherrack, a magma…
