Lazyboy's No Fire Spread

by GamerPotionDev

Lazyboy's No Fire Spread stops fire from spreading through the world, so a torch or lava bucket only affects the block it touches.

What it does

Fire in Minecraft normally follows a repeating fire tick: each fire block runs several random checks, and those checks decide whether flames jump to nearby blocks, burn a block and then go out. Across big forests or large builds, fire checks can add up to thousands per second, and one dropped torch, spilled lava or lightning hit may burn an entire wooden base on a multiplayer server.

The mod sets the fire tick game rule to false every time a game or server loads, so fire no longer spreads. Existing flames still burn their own block and go out. It is useful for admins who want to avoid invisible disasters, for modpacks that ship with fire spread disabled by default, and for players who do not want fire to behave realistically. The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under the MIT License. The code is not open source. Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across six release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.2.

Key features

  1. Fire spread disabled

Fire no longer jumps to neighbouring blocks, so forests and roofs stay intact after a spark.

  2. Game rule set on load

The fire tick rule is switched off each time a world or server starts, so the setting does not need manual changes.

  3. Lower server load

Fewer random fire checks run each tick, which reduces the work a server does in areas with lots of wood.

  4. Fire still burns in place

Fire that already exists keeps burning its own block and then goes out, so torches and lava still work as expected.

Who it’s for: Server owners, modpack authors and players who prefer fire that stays where it is lit. Anyone who wants the realistic spread of vanilla fire should leave the mod out.

What the author says

This is a simple mod that sets the no fire tick gamerule to false everytime the game/server loads, which then stops fire from spreading in the world Minecraft’s fire system is governed by a repeating “fire tick” that controls whether fire spreads, burns blocks, or goes out.
