Bombs Away!

by The Cogs

Bombs Away! is a server-side Fabric mod that drops TNT on players flying below with elytra, configured through a JSON file.

FabricServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21 – 1.21.1

What it does

Players who fly with elytra can be bombed from above. The mod lets server-side TNT fall on unsuspecting players flying below, a carpet-bombing effect that fits PvP and playful servers. Ground-bound players are not targeted while they stay on foot.

Only the server needs the mod: players join without installing anything, and the mod is not needed on the client, so it can be added to a server without any client-side setup. Single-player worlds need it installed as well. Files are published for Fabric only, for game versions 1.21 and 1.21.1, with 1.0.0 for 1.21.1 as the latest file, released under All rights reserved.

Behavior is adjusted in bombsaway.json inside the config folder. The tntIgnitersTag option selects which offhand items can ignite the bombing, and it points to the item tag c:tnt igniters by default. Planned support for TNT minecarts and fire charges is mentioned by the author but is not in this release.

Key features

  1. Carpet bombing from above

TNT falls on players who are flying with elytra below, so aerial travel carries a risk.

  2. Server-side operation

Players connect without the mod, and the server alone runs its effects.

  3. Configurable ignition items

The offhand items that trigger the bombing are set by the tntIgnitersTag option in bombsaway.json.

  4. Default igniter tag

The default item tag c:tnt igniters defines which items count as igniters until the config is changed.

Use cases

Player-versus-player servers

Server owners add aerial hazards to combat, so flying players must watch the sky.

Single-player worlds

Players testing the effect on their own world install the mod locally for a solo run.

Who it’s for: Server owners and single-player players who want elytra flight to carry a risk of TNT falling from above. The mod is not useful on the client alone.

What the author says

Tired of those ground-bound players who think they can get by without an elytra? It's time to show them who's boss! Take to the skies and rain down destruction with a carpet bombing that'll make them wish they'd taken flight! Bombs away is server-sided, players do not have to install the mod to use it on a server…
