Sophisticated Backpacks

by P3pp3rF1y

Sophisticated Backpacks lets players carry storage on the body or place it in the world, with two-color dye and upgrades that add slots and filters.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 26.3

What it does

A backpack can be worn in the chest slot, where it is drawn on the player, or set down as a block. Opening it works from the Open Backpack key, which is B by default, or by right-clicking the item while it is held. Tiers raise the inventory size and allow more upgrades to be fitted.

Appearance is set with dyes in a crafting grid, following the same mixing approach as leather armor. Dyes to the left of the backpack change the main shade, dyes to the right change the secondary shade, and dyes in the backpack's column change both. Sophisticated Storage's Decoration Table can also apply colors.

Installation needs Sophisticated Core. Curios API, Chipped, Crafting Tweaks, Item Borders, Just Enough Items, Sawmill and TrashSlot are optional. Running client and server, the mod is published for Forge and NeoForge across 16 release versions, and is not open source; it is under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Placeable backpacks

A backpack can be worn on the player or set in the world as a block, so storage stays where it is put.

  2. Two-color dyeing

The main and accent colors are chosen separately by where dyes sit in the crafting grid.

  3. Filtered upgrades

The basic filter upgrade has 9 slots, and the advanced one has 16 slots with filters for specific items, whole mods, tags, saved data and durability.

  4. Experience collection

With a Tank Upgrade that has free space, the backpack can collect experience orbs and turn them into experience fluid.

  5. Curios back slot

With Curios installed, a backpack can be worn in the back slot as an alternative to the chest slot.

Use cases

Carrying bulk items

A backpack adds inventory space beyond the player's own slots and can be upgraded as the player's storage needs grow.

Base storage

A backpack placed in the world works as a block chest, keeping items near a build or a mining area.

Who it’s for: Portable storage with custom appearance and filtering suits players, and recipe gating through modpack progression suits server owners.
