Shared Resources
by enjarai
With Shared Resources, separate Minecraft instances can read the same resource packs, data packs, shaders, saves and options from one common folder.
What it does
The mod lets a player point an instance at a global directory that holds common game files, instead of the default one. Where it can, the mod reads files from the global directory alongside the local ones, and two sources can be combined by ticking both. The sharing covers resource packs, data packs and shader packs, but only the types the mod supports are available to share.
Shared Resources is a Fabric mod that is client-side only, so servers run without it and players need it alone. It reads config files in the Fabric config folder and works with mods whose configuration is coded to follow that convention. Installation requires CICADA, Cloth Config API and Fabric API. Files are published for Fabric across 26 release versions, 1.16 – 1.21.4, and the mod is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so the code is open source.
Key features
Global game directory
An instance can use a shared directory for common game files rather than its own default directory.
Merged file loading
Files are read from the global and local directories together, and both sources can be selected at once.
Resource and data packs
Resource packs and data packs in the shared directory are available to every instance that uses it.
Shader packs and saves
Shader packs, Iris, and worlds are shared between instances, so they do not have to be copied for each launch.

Use cases
Who it’s for: The mod suits players who keep several Minecraft instances and want common packs, shaders and settings to stay in one place, as well as players who already use a multi-instance launcher.
How it compares
Sodium Shader Support is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Fabric 1.19 – 1.20.1, so it covers a much shorter span of versions than this mod. MC Folders is also client-side only and open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, but its files only target 1.18.2. Resclone runs on both sides, with its environment marked client or server optional, and is published for 1.16.4 – 26.3 under the MIT License.
