Patchouli

by Vazkii

Patchouli lets modders and pack makers build in-game guidebooks from data files, without writing code for each page.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverCC-BY-NC-SA-3.01.12.2 – 26.1.2

What it does

Books are defined in data, so a book can be created or changed without compiling a Java mod. Each book holds nested categories and entries that players can bookmark, and the mod supplies ready-made page types such as text, crafting and image pages. A template system lets authors define custom page types when the built-in ones are not enough.

Patchouli also includes an in-game text preview for checking how a page will look, a formatting system with macros, and advancement-driven entries that appear as players progress. Multiblock pages show how a structure is assembled. Installing it on Fabric requires Fabric API, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 20 release versions, covering 1.12.2 – 26.1.2. It is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA-3.0 and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Data-driven books

Books, categories and entries are written as data, so content can be authored without writing code.

  2. Ready-made page types

Text, crafting and image pages are included, along with other built-in types that do not need custom code.

  3. Advancement-gated entries

Entries can be tied to advancements, so the book shows material as the player progresses.

  4. Multiblock visualization

Multiblock pages display the layout of a structure so players can see how to build it.

  5. Custom page templates

A template system allows authors to define new page types for content the built-in pages do not cover.
