Botania

by Vazkii

With Botania, players gather natural Mana from flowers and devices, and the world's power becomes the base of nearly every machine and magical tool in the mod.

What it does

Botania is a magic mod with a technology side, themed around natural magic. Players create magical flowers and devices that produce and store Mana, the power of the earth, and use it to run automated systems and tools. Its content falls under the Magic category, with Decoration and Technology as secondary categories.

The mod is built for sandbox play. Systems can be planned and worked out in advance instead of being copied from blueprints or a wiki. Botania works fine on its own and can be played without other mods, but it also pairs well with them. It requires Curios API, Fabric API, Patchouli and Trinkets as dependencies, and the Forge build uses Curios API while the Fabric and Quilt builds use Trinkets.

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and Quilt across 11 release versions, 1.6.4 – 1.20.1. The latest files for 1.20.1 date from 2026-09-17. The mod runs on the client and the server together, so both need it. Its license is custom and the mod is not open source, though the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Natural Mana power

Magical flowers and devices generate Mana, which powers machines and crafted magical tools throughout the mod.

  2. In-world interaction

Players use the world itself to interact with devices, without separate menus or screens to operate them.

  3. Renewable resources

Resources are kept renewable where possible, so long-term play does not depend on a finite supply.

  4. Automation without grinding

Automation is built from planned systems rather than repetitive collection, letting players set up contraptions with little tedious work.
