Nuit
by FlashyReese
Nuit lets resource pack authors define custom skyboxes, with keyframed transitions, per-skybox fog and weather-aware rendering, all described in JSON.
What it does
Skyboxes are defined in a JSON format that a resource pack supplies, so a pack can set how and when each sky renders. Keyframe-based fade and rotation transitions control the timing, and sunrise, sunset, night and weather rendering can each be tuned. Fog can be set separately for every skybox, and animated textures can use optional frame interpolation.
Installation needs Fabric API, and the mod runs client-side only, so it only needs to be installed on the player's side. Builds exist for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, across 31 release versions. The license is MIT, and the source code, issue tracker and wiki are public. The mod was formerly published as FabricSkyBoxes and was renamed to reflect its support beyond Fabric. OptiFine and MCPatcher skybox packs are not read natively; the separate mod Nuit Interop loads them through Nuit.
Key features
Keyframeable transitions
Fade and rotation between skyboxes can be keyframed, so changes follow a timeline instead of switching abruptly.
Day and weather rendering
Custom sunrise, sunset, night and weather rendering let a pack control the sky throughout the day and during rain or storms.
Per-skybox fog
Each skybox can define its own fog, so the look changes with the sky it belongs to.
Modular JSON format
Skyboxes are written as modular JSON files, so pack authors can split and reuse definitions.
Animated textures
Animated textures can be used in a skybox, with optional frame interpolation for smoother motion.

Use cases
Immersive skies in a pack
Resource pack makers can build dynamic day and night skies that replace the vanilla sky without code.
Who it’s for: Resource pack authors who want precise control over sky timing, fog and weather in a JSON-defined format, and players who use those packs.
