Caelum - ArdaCraft Edition

by Ajcool_

Caelum - ArdaCraft Edition changes how the night sky, the Sun and the Moon look and move, adapted for the ArdaCraft setting on Fabric.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.19.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

The mod replaces the default night sky drawing with a textured field of points in more realistic tones. The position of the Sun is approximated from the player's latitude and from the axial tilt of the Earth, so solstices and equinoxes fall in their expected places. The model also takes into account a slow shift in the Earth's axis over time.

Extra layers are added to the skybox render, which allows clouds and other overlays to be drawn above the sky. The skybox and fog can also be rendered conditionally for Moria on ArdaCraft. It requires Iris Shaders and Nuit. Support for the adjusted celestial positions depends on each shader, and the methods Iris provides decide which shaders can use them.

Only the client needs it, and it is installed on Fabric for 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. The latest file is 1.1.1+ArdaCraft for 1.20.1, published on 2025-04-05. The license is the MIT License, and the project is not open source. Caelum - ArdaCraft Edition is incompatible with Caelum Refabricated, so the two cannot be installed together.

Key features

  1. Textured sky field

Points of light are drawn from a texture with colors closer to real tones, replacing the default points.

  2. Approximated solar position

The Sun's path follows the player's latitude and the Earth's axial tilt, so its height shifts across the year.

  3. Precession adjustment

The solar model accounts for a gradual shift in the Earth's axis, changing the positions of the sky over long periods.

  4. Skybox overlay layers

Additional skybox layers allow clouds and other overlays to appear above the sky texture.

Use cases

ArdaCraft servers and players

The changes were made to suit the ArdaCraft setting, so players on that setting use the adjusted sky and celestial positions.

Shader-based sky setups

Players who run Iris Shaders can use shaders that accept the custom Sun and Moon positions.

Who it’s for: Players who want more realistic night skies and celestial movement, especially on ArdaCraft, and who already use Fabric with Iris Shaders and Nuit.

Questions

Does Caelum - ArdaCraft Edition need to be installed on the server?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Which dependencies must be installed with it?

Iris Shaders and Nuit are required. Installing the mod without them leaves the sky changes unavailable.

Can it run alongside Caelum Refabricated?

No. The two are marked as incompatible, so only one of them should be installed.

Will every shader show the adjusted Sun and Moon?

Not necessarily. Some shaders use the methods Iris provides for custom positions, while others handle the Sun and Moon differently.
