BetterEnd Crashed Ships Tweaks
by muon-rw
With BetterEnd Crashed Ships Tweaks installed on a Fabric server, the crashed ships that BetterEnd generates around the End receive loot in their chests.
What it does
BetterEnd places crashed ships across the End, and its brewing stands and dragon heads generate as expected, but the chests inside are left empty. This mod fills those chests with loot through a mixin that runs on every newly generated crashed ship. Ships generated before the mod was added stay as they are, so the loot appears only in ships created after installation.
The mod is server-side only, so players join a server running it without installing anything. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with source code and an issue tracker linked from its page. Datapacks that change how ship structures are stored remain compatible with the loot step. Files cover 1.20.1, 1.21 and 1.21.1, and the latest Fabric build, 1.1.0 for 1.21.1, was published on 2024-09-14. It requires BetterEnd.
Key features
Loot in new ships
Each newly generated crashed ship gets loot in its chests, where BetterEnd would otherwise leave them empty.
Datapack compatibility
Changes made by datapacks to the ship NBT are respected, so modified ship layouts still receive loot.
Planned spawn rate setting
A configurable spawn rate for crashed ships is planned for a future build.
Planned hostile entities setting
A planned option would control whether hostile entities spawn inside the ships.
Planned discard chance
A planned setting would set the chance that chests or an elytra are discarded from the loot.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.

Use cases
Modpack builds
Modpack authors who use BetterEnd can add the mod so that End exploration rewards players with items from the ships.
Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack authors who run BetterEnd on Fabric and want its crashed ships to hold loot.
How it compares
ExplosiveCrashes is client-side only and open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.20 – 1.21.11, so it changes the ships' look on the player's side rather than their loot. Astrocite is a Fabric mod for client and server, not open source, released under All rights reserved for 1.21.8 – 26.1.2. PacketDiscard is server-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and covers 1.19.4 – 1.21.1.

What the author says
BetterEnd dynamically generates crashed ships around the end, but despite generating brewing stands with potions and a dragon head, the chests generate completely empty! Apparently, there are no plans by BetterEnd to change this, so I decided to release this patch (for a modpack, but anyone can use it). The mod is…
