Chunks fade in
by kerudion
Chunks fade in replaces the abrupt appearance of newly loaded terrain with smooth fade-in and motion animations on the client.
What it does
Newly loaded chunks ease into view instead of popping up at the edge of the screen. The animations resemble the chunk loading seen in Minecraft Bedrock Edition and the ChunkAnimator mod, and the mod adds further effects such as curvature, which bends the rendered world as if it were the surface of a sphere.
The mod runs only on the client, so a server does not need it and players can join a server without installing it. Sodium is required, and Iris Shaders is optional for players who use shader packs. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and it is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 32 release versions, 1.18 – 26.3.
Key features
Fade-in animation
Chunks fade from transparent to opaque as they finish loading, removing the sudden pop-in at the render distance edge.
Motion animation
Loaded chunks can also slide into place, giving the terrain a moving entrance instead of a static one.
Curvature effect
An optional curvature setting bends the visible world so it appears to follow the surface of a spherical planet.
Sodium integration
The animations are applied alongside Sodium's rendering, so the chunk effects do not require a separate renderer.

Use cases
Exploring new terrain
Players flying or running across the map see the world load in smoothly, instead of blocks appearing directly in front of them.
Showcasing visual effects
Players who record or stream gameplay can use the curvature and motion effects to change how the landscape looks on screen.
Who it’s for: Players who use Sodium and want smoother terrain loading, and players who prefer a stylized view of the world with curvature.
How it compares
Sodium Dynamic Lights is a client-side mod released under the MIT License, open source, and published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20 – 1.21.5, so it adds lighting rather than chunk animation. Better Sodium Video Settings Button is client-side only, open source under the MIT License, and covers Fabric and NeoForge for 1.18.2 – 1.21.8, offering a settings shortcut instead of visual effects.
