Horse Powered

by Saereth

Horse Powered lets leashed animals turn a crank, so the early game can run machines powered by horses, donkeys, mules and llamas.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

Hand-cranked machinery driven by animals covers the early stages of production: grinding, chopping, pressing, drying and crushing. A starter block is worked by hand, and an upgrade lets leashed workers run the same process. Vanilla horses, donkeys, mules and llamas can be leashed as workers, and any mob with the horsepowered:valid worker tag can be added through a data pack.

Recipes are data-driven, so modpack makers can add, remove or rebalance processing steps through a datapack. Recipes can also list a secondary output with a chance roll. The machines give full JEI, EMI and Jade support, and an optional Create integration is available for the power tie-in. Rather than storing animal effort, the generator converts the work done by workers straight into Forge Energy that feeds the remaining equipment in a technical setup.

Horse Powered is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. The mod is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Hand Grindstone

Manual milling that takes one turn per operation, suited to the earliest stage of production.

  2. Horse Grindstone

A leashed worker keeps milling without a player present, moving hands-off through the same recipes.

  3. Chopping Block

Axe-driven log splitting that turns logs into planks, sticks, signs and trapdoors.

  4. Passive press and dryer

A 2x2 multiblock with eight independent slots dries items over time, and hoppers can insert and extract from its sides.

Questions

Does Horse Powered need Create?

No. Create is an optional dependency, and the Create integration adds the power tie-in only when it is installed.

Do both the server and players need Horse Powered?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which loader should be chosen for Horse Powered?

The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge. Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2, so the loader must match a supported version.

Can other mobs work as horse-powered workers?

Yes. Any mob with the horsepowered:valid worker tag can be leashed as a worker, added through a data pack.

What the author says

Pre-industrial farming machinery for Minecraft. Process grain, wood, fluids, and rock the old-fashioned way: by hand for the early game, then with leashed animals walking in circles once you have a herd. Every recipe, time, and tier is data-driven, so modpacks can re-balance the entire mod from a datapack. Grain to…
