Dusty Discoveries

by jaredlll08

Dusty Discoveries adds fossils that players excavate from underground deposits, then prepare and display in a new paleontology setup.

What it does

Fossils sit deep underground and are found by digging. Digging these out gives Fossilized Bone Blocks, and a brush used on those blocks may turn up things like coal, diamonds and encased fossils. Encased fossils are processed at a Fossil Prep Station, which turns them into complete fossil pieces; the station's default recipe uses a brush surrounded by packed mud.

Fossil pieces are purely decorative and are shown off in Display Cases, which come in 16 colors that can be changed with a single dye. A new villager profession, the Paleontologist, works at the Fossil Prep Station. Paleontologists trade Fossil Field Notes, which help locate fossils in the world, and Display Cases, and they also offer a Paleontologist Hat that comes in 16 colors.

The mod needs Fabric API on Fabric. It runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, for game version 26.2 only, with 26.2.3 as the latest file on both loaders as of 2026-08-29. The mod was first published on 2026-08-27. The license is All rights reserved, and the mod is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are publicly linked.
