DeathCompass
by Nikrecs
DeathCompass gives players a compass that points back to the spot where they last died, so the way back is clear after a loss.
What it does
When a player dies, the mod records the death location and gives a Death Compass that targets it. The compass is placed in the inventory and works like a lodestone-targeted compass, so it spins randomly in a different dimension, as a normal compass does. A player who has a full inventory finds the compass dropped at their feet instead.
The server grants the compass, so only the server needs the mod: players join without installing anything, and clients can add it for a familiar setup. Single-player worlds work too when the mod file is placed in the mods folder. The interface is translated into 10 languages, covering European, East Asian and Portuguese-speaking audiences.
Installation needs Architectury API on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, and Fabric API is needed on Fabric. Files are published for 1.19.2, 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11 and the 26.x builds, with 1.1.0 as the latest file on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge; the mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Automatic death compass
After a death the player automatically receives a compass that points to the exact last death location.
Familiar compass behavior
The compass follows the vanilla compass mechanics, so it spins in another dimension just as a normal compass does.
Full inventory fallback
When the inventory is full, the compass drops at the player's feet rather than being lost.
Ten translations
The interface and item text are translated into 10 languages.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want a clear way back after dying, and server owners who want to offer that without a client-side install.
How it compares
Respawn Recovery Compass is server required with the client optional, published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and is not open source. Northern Compass is client-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0 and published for 1.19 – 1.21.1, so it needs no server. Better Respawn is server-side only like DeathCompass, also not open source, and covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
