Body Health System
by srgnis
Body Health System splits the player's health across separate body parts, so a hit to one limb is judged against the armor covering that limb.
What it does
Instead of a single health pool, the player's health is divided among body parts. When a part takes damage, only the armor covering that part counts toward the reduction. If a part loses all of its health, debuffs such as slowness, mining fatigue and weakness are applied to the player.
The mod is built on Fabric and needs Fabric API to run. Mod Menu is optional and only adds a configuration screen. MidnightLib is bundled inside the mod, so no separate install is needed for it. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Six release versions cover 1.19 – 1.20.1, with 0.3.6 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, and the code is under the MIT License and is open source.
Development is tracked on public source code and an issue tracker. The first file appeared on 2022-10-25 and the most recent update is dated 2023-08-21.
Key features
Per-part health
Health is tracked separately for each body part, so damage to one area leaves the others unchanged.
Location-based armor
Armor reduces damage only for the body part it covers, so a helmet protects the head and not the legs.
Targeted hits
Arrows apply their damage to the specific body part they strike, found by ray casting.
Custom damage distributions
Each mob can be given its own distribution of damage across body parts.
Cumulative debuffs
Losing all health in a part applies slowness, mining fatigue or weakness to the player.

Use cases
Combat with more detail
Players can face fights where aim and armor coverage affect how wounds accumulate.
Custom mob balance
Mod authors and server owners can assign damage distributions to particular mobs.
Who it’s for: Players who want combat where the location of a hit matters, and server owners who want to tune how mobs spread their damage across the body.
How it compares
Chimera Origin is open source under the MIT License and published for 1.20.4, with a server required and client optional environment. Baidan546's Locational Health is client and server, but it is not open source, is under All rights reserved and targets 1.21.11. Zomboid Health System is client and server, open source under the MIT License and covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.4, so it overlaps with this mod's version range.

What the author says
This mod adds a new heath system to Minecraft. Players health is splitted in different body parts, when a part receives damage only the armor corresponding to that part is taken in consideration. If some parts lose all the health debuffs will be applied to the player, as slowness, mining fatigue and weakness.
