Unlit Campfire
by cech12
Unlit Campfire changes how campfires are placed and burn, so a placed campfire starts unlit and does not hurt players who build with it.
What it does
Placed campfires start unlit, and a lit campfire deals heat damage to a player who places it. Soul campfires get the same default state, and the mod exposes that choice in its config. Campfires can also be set to go out on their own after a set number of ticks, to go out when rain falls, or to be destroyed once extinguished. Each of these options is configurable and most are disabled by default.
Sleeping can be set to add lit time to a campfire, and fuel items such as logs, sticks and coal extend burn time. A lit soul campfire can be made to burn infinitely with Magma Cream, and an item tag and the unlitcampfire:makes_campfire_infinite entry control which campfires burn without end. Generated soul campfires can also burn infinitely, which is configurable. The mod runs on client and server, and the server and every player need it. Cloth Config API and Fabric API are required, and Jade and Mod Menu are optional. Compatibility with Jade and One Probe shows the lit time and infinity status of a block.
Builds cover 1.15.2 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The code is open source under the MIT License. A wiki describes the options in detail, and a resource pack called Unlit Campfire Icons removes the fire icons from campfires.
Key features
Unlit placement
Campfires placed by a player start unlit, so building with them is safe without burning hands.
Configurable burn behavior
Campfires and soul campfires can extinguish on a timer, in rain or after fueling, and can be destroyed when they go out.
Infinite burning
Magma Cream keeps a lit soul campfire burning, and an item tag or config entry picks other campfires that never go out.
Icon resource pack
A separate resource pack named Unlit Campfire Icons removes the fire icons from campfires.

What the author says
Placing a lit campfire is a hot task. Do something good for your hands and install this mod, because then you won't burn your hands when you place a campfire. This mod sets the default state of a (soul) campfire to unlit.
