BucketLib

by cech12

BucketLib is a library mod that lets developers add custom buckets for fluids, entities and blocks without handling each special case by hand.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 26.3

What it does

Buckets generated through the library accept any fluid, including Water, Lava and fluids added by other mods, and stay compatible with mods that use fluid container items. Entities such as axolotls, fish and tadpoles can be picked up in a bucket, as can Powder Snow and other bucketable blocks from other mods. Milking works for cows and goats, and the resulting milk is drinkable and works with mods that include a milk fluid.

The purpose of the mod is to give developers a foundation for their own bucket items. Restrictions on collecting fluids, mobs and blocks can be set with allow lists and deny lists, or by fluid temperature, and buckets can be set to crack when a fluid exceeds a configured temperature. The developer guide describes how to add the mod to a development environment.

The mod is released for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 27 release versions, 1.18.2 – 26.3, and is open source under the MIT License. It is a client and server mod, so a server and every player must both run it. Fabric and Quilt builds require Cloth Config API and Fabric API.

Key features

  1. Fluid-agnostic buckets

Buckets created with the library hold Water, Lava and modded fluids alike, without per-fluid code.

  2. Entity and block pickup

Axolotls, fish, tadpoles, Powder Snow and other bucketable blocks or mobs from other mods can be collected in a bucket.

  3. Milk handling

Cows and goats can be milked, and milk buckets interact with mods that provide a milk fluid.

  4. Dispense behaviour

Buckets generated by the library dispense their contents out of the box, with no extra setup.

  5. Allow and deny lists

Fluids, entities and blocks can be limited with allow lists and deny lists, or by fluid temperature.

  6. Temperature cracking

A bucket can be configured to crack when the fluid it holds exceeds a set temperature.

Use cases

Custom bucket items

Mod developers can add their own buckets for new fluids without writing the special-case logic themselves.

Modpack restrictions

Pack makers can use the allow and deny lists to control which fluids and mobs players may bucket.

Who it’s for: Mod developers building bucket items, and modpack makers who want to limit which fluids, entities and blocks players can collect in buckets.

Questions

Does BucketLib need Fabric API?

Fabric and Quilt builds need Fabric API and Cloth Config API. Forge and NeoForge builds need only the libraries their own loader provides.

Do players need BucketLib installed?

Yes. The mod is client and server, so the server and every player must run it to use the buckets it generates.

Which mods depend on BucketLib?

Eight catalog mods require it, among them SimpleOres2, Wooden Bucket, Ceramic Bucket, SimpleOres Recontinued and Machines.

In the catalog

BucketLib is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,348 Library mods for Fabric. 8,071 mods support Minecraft 26.3.
