Spooky Doors
by BlayTheNinth
With Spooky Doors installed, every door in the world can be peeked through, slammed shut or pushed open with a rush, borrowing the way horror games handle doors.
What it does
The mod changes how doors open and close. Dragging the mouse slowly opens a door only partway, letting a player peek through, while dragging quickly slams it shut or open. Running into a door that is already ajar opens or closes it, and each action plays a creaking sound. Since the 1.20 release line, the effect covers all doors rather than only separate spooky door items.
The mod was made for SpookyJam 2024. It needs Balm on every loader, and Fabric API on Fabric. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 14 release versions, 1.20 – 26.3, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. The code is not open source; the mod is under All rights reserved.
Key features
Peeking through doors
A slow drag on a door opens it halfway, so the player can look into the next room before stepping through.
Slamming doors shut
A quick mouse drag swings a door closed or open with force, similar to a startled reaction in a horror game.
Creaking door sounds
Opening, closing and slamming a door plays scary creaking sounds, which add to the atmosphere.
Toggling with Honeycomb or Ghast Tear
Honeycomb or Ghast Tear can be used to toggle the spooky behavior on a door.

Use cases
Horror-themed builds
Doors in haunted houses, asylums or abandoned mansions can be made to feel unsettling during play.
Horror map and adventure play
Adventure maps built around tension can use the door behavior to pace scares as players explore.
Who it’s for: Players who want doors that react to the mouse in a tense way, and server owners running horror-themed worlds or adventure maps.

What the author says
This mod makes doors spooky, imitating the way that doors behave in horror games like Amnesia or Outlast. This means you can peek through doors by opening them halfway, slam them shut if you get scared, and enjoy an orchestra of creaking sounds while you do so. This mod requires Balm, which must be installed…
