Sooty Chimneys
by mortuusars
With Sooty Chimneys, chimney blocks in seven materials emit smoke particles, and that smoke drifts with the wind.
What it does
Chimneys are offered in seven materials, from fired clay and stone variants to metal and glazed options. Each one emits smoke particles. Over time a chimney collects soot and turns dirty, and scraping it with an axe cleans it again. Scraping can drop a black dye.
Smoke is shaped by wind. Wind grows stronger during rain and thunder and calms down at night, and it moves the smoke from campfires as well. A redstone signal stops a chimney from emitting smoke, and right-clicking one with an empty hand toggles how the smoke flows. Stacking a chimney on top of another one makes the lower chimney emit signal smoke, similar to a hay bale placed under a campfire.
The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and Forge Config API Port is required on Forge. Because the environment is client and server, the server and every player need the mod installed. Files cover 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.20.1, 1.21, 1.21.1 and up to 26.2.

Use cases
Building villages and workshops
Chimneys in several materials let builders match a roofline or a furnace room to the surrounding architecture.
Who it’s for: Builders who want chimneys that behave like smoking stacks, and server owners who want a shared smoke effect for every player.
How it compares
Tinted Campfires is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.18.2 – 26.2, under All rights reserved and not open source, and it runs client and server. Better Smoke is a Fabric-only client-side mod under the MIT License for 1.21 – 26.3, so only the client needs it and it is not open source.
