Horseman

by mortuusars

With Horseman, a copper horn bound to a horse can summon that horse from anywhere in the world, and the mod also adds several riding changes.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.3

What it does

A horse is bound to a horn sound with Sneak and Use. Once bound, tooting the horn calls the horse to the player. Different players can bind different horses to the same sound, because the horse recognizes who plays the horn. A horse already bound to one player cannot be bound to another. Losing the horn does not lose the binding, since the horse is tied to the sound and a new horn with the same instrument can call it.

The mod changes how ridden horses move and handle terrain. Horses can swim when the rider presses jump in water, with camels, skeleton horses and zombie horses excluded by default through the horseman:cannot_swim entity tag. Leaf collision is reduced for forest travel, step height rises by 10 percent, and descending blocks causes less slowdown. Mining speed while mounted no longer takes the usual penalty. Saddled horses wander only within a set radius of where their owner left them. The mod requires Fabric API on Fabric and Forge Config API Port on Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and it is published for 1.20.1 – 26.3 under the MIT License, which is open source. Client and server both need it.

Key features

  1. Horn summoning

A copper horn bound to a horse calls it from any location in the world.

  2. Per-player horse binding

Each horse is bound to one owner, and players can share a horn sound while calling different horses.

  3. Horse swimming

Ridden horses swim when the rider presses jump in water, with exceptions set by an entity tag.

  4. Leash to fences

A mounted player clicks a fence to leash the horse, using a lead kept in a special slot in the horse inventory.

  5. Smoother riding

Step height, jump distance, slowdown on descent and camera rotation while stopped are all adjusted for riding.

Questions

Does Horseman need Fabric API on every loader?

No. Fabric API is required on Fabric. Forge Config API Port is required on Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.

Do both the server and players need Horseman?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Can a horse be bound to two players at once?

No. A horse that already remembers one owner cannot be bound to another player.

What the author says

When mounted, clicking on a fence will leash the horse to it. Requires Lead in the special slot that's added to horse inventory. When the leash is removed or broken - Lead will not drop and will remain in the slot.
