Exposure
by mortuusars
Exposure turns the camera into a multi-step process: a Film Roll is loaded, the photo is framed through a viewfinder, and the captured picture becomes a physical print that can be kept or shared.
What it does
The camera is operated with a short sequence. A player loads a Film Roll, opens the viewfinder, and presses or holds Sneak while looking through it to control the shutter. Sneaking while the camera is held opens an attachments window where the flash, lens and filter are set. A photograph is only produced once light-sensitive film has been exposed, so each shot depends on the film loaded and the attachments chosen.
Process and appearance take priority over quick screenshots in this design. Attachments are represented by familiar items: a redstone lamp serves as the flash, a spyglass as the lens modifier, and glass panes as filters. Once developed, a Photograph is a captured moment that can be hung on a wall, given to other players, or sold. Players need Fabric API on Fabric and Forge Config API Port on Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Client and server both need the mod, with files published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 3 release versions under the MIT License, which is open source. Just Enough Items (JEI) is an optional dependency.
Photographs can be displayed in a room, traded with other players or kept as a record of what was seen in the world. Each print carries the image captured by the camera, so the result of a shot is visible long after it was taken. Hanging a print on a wall keeps it on display in the base or room where it was placed.
Key features
Film-based capture
Photographs are produced only after light-sensitive film is exposed, so each picture depends on the loaded film.
Viewfinder controls
Sneak input while looking through the viewfinder adjusts the camera, and sneaking with the camera held opens the attachments window.
Item-based attachments
The flash, lens and filter use existing items: a redstone lamp, a spyglass and glass panes.
Hanging and sharing prints
Finished photographs can be hung on walls, shown to other players or traded.
