Advancement Plaques

by Grend

Advancement Plaques swaps the small advancement popups for larger glowing plaques that appear along one edge of the screen.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.01.12.2 – 26.3

What it does

When a player earns an advancement, the mod shows a plaque instead of the standard toast. The plaque can be limited to the Task, Goal or Challenge advancement types, and it can be placed at the top or bottom of the screen with an adjustable distance from the edge. A whitelist option lets a player or pack maker show plaques only for chosen advancement IDs.

The mod works with any advancement, including those added by other mods, and its look can be changed with resource packs. The card names Embellished Stone as an example pack. Some other mods that change advancement popups may not work with it. Required dependencies are Fabric API and Iceberg, and Prism is an optional dependency. Builds span 24 release versions for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.12.2 – 26.3, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.0, which is not open source. The source code and issue tracker are public.

Advancement Plaques runs client-side only on Fabric. On Forge and NeoForge the installation needs the server as well when the sound effects are enabled, and disabling them in the config lets the mod run on the client alone. Iceberg is required on every loader.

Key features

  1. Plaques for chosen advancement types

Plaques can be shown for any or all of the Task, Goal and Challenge advancement types through the config.

  2. Screen position settings

Plaques appear at the top or bottom of the screen, and the distance from that edge is configurable.

  3. Advancement whitelist

A list of advancement IDs limits plaques to selected advancements only.

  4. Resource pack styling

The appearance of the plaques can be replaced with resource packs.

  5. Advancements from other mods

Advancements added by other mods also display as plaques, so the setting covers modded progress as well.

Questions

Does Advancement Plaques need Fabric API?

Yes, Fabric API is a required dependency on Fabric. Iceberg is also required, and Prism is optional.

Do the server and every player need the mod?

Only when the sound effects are enabled on Forge or NeoForge, because they require installing the mod on both sides. With the sounds disabled in config, the mod can run on the client alone. The Fabric build runs on the client alone.

Can plaques be limited to certain advancements?

Yes. The whitelist configuration option takes a list of advancement IDs, and only those advancements show a plaque.

What the author says

R eplace those boring, anti-climactic advancement popups with fancy glowing plaques. This mod adds new custom sounds, which (due to a limitation in Forge) means it needs to be installed on both the client and server. If these sounds are disabled in config, this mod can be run on just the client side.
