Scarcity
by pawjwp
With Scarcity installed, food, water and health work under tighter rules, adding hunger and resource limits to survival play on Forge.
What it does
Scarcity adds configurable options that make resources a bit more scarce. Hunger values can be changed, the hunger depletion rate and saturation rates can be tuned, and exhaustion gain can be set globally or drained passively over time. Movement actions such as walking, sprinting, jumping and swimming, along with attacking and taking damage, can each be given their own exhaustion cost.
Water bottles can be limited, falling block physics can be nerfed, and seeds, trees and crops can be made scarcer. Regeneration rates, both fast and slow, can also be adjusted. The mod was created for the Desolate Planet modpack, and its author hopes the options prove useful in other modpacks too.
Scarcity is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license and is not open source, although its source code is public. It is published for Forge only, with builds for 1.20 and 1.20.1, and the latest file is 1.2.0 for 1.20.1. The server and every player need the mod installed. Ex Deorum, Thermal Expansion and Tinkers' Construct are optional dependencies.
Key features
Configurable hunger values
Hunger and saturation values can be adjusted, so food restores less or more than in vanilla survival.
Exhaustion and depletion rates
The rate at which hunger depletes and the global exhaustion gain can be set, with an optional passive exhaustion drain.
Movement and combat costs
Walking, sprinting, jumping, swimming, attacking and taking damage can each be given a separate exhaustion cost.
Scarce water, seeds and blocks
Water bottles can be limited, falling block physics can be nerfed, and seeds, trees and crops can be made harder to obtain.
Regeneration rates
Fast and slow natural regeneration rates can be changed to match the difficulty a server wants.

How it compares
Hunger Attribute is open source under the MIT License, client and server, for Forge 1.20.1 only. Ban Hunger Value is also client and server, under the MIT License, but it is not open source and covers only 1.20.1. Advanced Water Mechanics targets Fabric and Forge across 1.20 – 1.20.1 under All rights reserved, so it is not open source and reaches Fabric players that Scarcity does not.

What the author says
Scarcity adds options to make resources a bit more scarce, including configurable hunger values, nerfed falling block physics, limited water bottle pickup, and seeds for trees and crops that are missing them. This mod was created for my modpack, Desolate Planet, but the features it adds will hopefully be useful to…
