Overflowing Bars
by Fuzs
Overflowing Bars stacks the health, armor and armor toughness bars into layers once they pass vanilla limits, with a counter for the layer count.
What it does
Health, armor and armor toughness bars are stacked into layers when their values go beyond what vanilla displays. Instead of adding rows of icons to the HUD, each extra layer sits in the same space, and a numeric counter shows how many layers are present. The bars use the vanilla colors as the base layer and one highlight color for stacked layers.
The mod also draws a dedicated armor toughness bar, a stat the vanilla HUD does not show. Its position, stacking behavior, counters and other display options can be changed to suit a preferred HUD layout. Overflowing Bars needs Fabric API and Puzzles Lib on Fabric, Puzzles Lib on NeoForge, and Forge Config API Port on Fabric. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game. Overflowing Bars is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 22 release versions, 1.18.2 – 26.3.
Key features
Compact health display
Health stacks beyond ten hearts into layers, so high values fit without extra rows on the HUD.
Armor beyond vanilla limits
Armor values above the vanilla maximum are shown in stacked layers that use only the space needed.
Armor toughness bar
A dedicated toughness bar displays a stat that vanilla leaves out of the HUD.
Layer counters
Each stacked bar can show a number indicating how many layers are present.
Single highlight color
Vanilla colors form the base layer and one highlight color marks stacked layers, avoiding rainbow displays.
Chat compatibility fix
Chat messages no longer cover the armor-related elements of the HUD.

Use cases
High-stat survival
Players with health, armor or toughness far above vanilla values can read them without the bars taking over the screen.
Custom HUD layouts
Players who arrange their HUD can move and restack the bars to fit their preferred setup.
Who it’s for: Players who reach stat values beyond the vanilla bars and want a compact HUD. The mod is client-side, so it suits single-player and the client side of multiplayer servers.
