Optimal Aim
by sootysplash
Optimal Aim draws a small configurable cube on the spot of another player's hitbox that is closest to the crosshair, to help players use their full 3 block reach in PvP.
What it does
Players aiming at the legs of an opponent lose part of their reach, because the nearest part of the target is often the upper body instead. The mod renders a cube on that aiming point so the crosshair can be placed there. The cube is kept small, and its color, size and appearance can be adjusted in the settings.
Setting the maximum distance to 3 makes the cube appear only when the targeted entity can actually be attacked. This lets newer players learn spacing and get a feel for their own reach. The mod runs on the client alone, and the code is open source under the Apache License 2.0. It is built for Fabric, with Cloth Config API and Mod Menu used for the configuration screen, and Fabric API required as well.
Files exist for 26 release versions, 1.19.3 – 26.3, and the latest Fabric file is 1.1.7 for 26.3, published on 2026-09-17. Optimal Aim was first published on 2023-11-27 and has been updated since.
Key features
Aiming point cube
A small cube is drawn on the part of another entity's hitbox that is closest to the crosshair.
Configurable rendering
The cube's size and appearance can be changed in the configuration screen, opened through Mod Menu.
Maximum distance limit
A distance cap of 3 blocks renders the cube only when the entity is within attack range, useful for learning reach.
Client-side rendering
The cube is drawn on the player's own screen, so the server does not need the mod to show it.

What the author says
This mod helps you position your crosshair on other players for pvp purposes to help utilize your full 3 block reach by rendering a small, highly configurable cube on the best place to aim. I made this mod because I see many new players aiming their crosshair at the other player's legs, losing a good 0.1-0.2 blocks…
