Keep Walking

by Cukkoo

Keep Walking lets the character keep responding to movement keys while a container screen is open, so players can walk around while they manage items.

What it does

Normally vanilla Minecraft stops processing movement key inputs whenever a container screen is open, which freezes the character. Keep Walking lets the character respond to held movement keys, so walking and strafing continue in the inventory and in the common storage and crafting screens. Sprint and sneak still work, and jumping stays available while browsing the inventory.

The mod uses two lightweight mixins to bypass the freeze. In singleplayer the world keeps running behind the screen. Keep Walking requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 26.1 – 26.1.2 and the latest build 1.0.0 for 26.1.2. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Movement while a screen is open

Held movement keys move the character in inventories and other container screens, including full WASD control.

  2. Jumping and sprinting

Jump, sprint and sneak keep working while a container screen is open, so browsing items does not stop the character.

  3. Zero configuration

The mod needs no setup after installation and can be added to an existing game without changing its settings.

  4. Client-side changes only

Packets are left unmodified and no server-side changes are made, so only the player's own client alters the behavior.

What the author says

Move freely while your inventory is open. No more freezing in place every time you open a chest, crafting table, or your inventory. With Keep Walking, your character keeps responding to movement keys even when a container screen is active.
