Ageing Spawners

by Mrbysco

Ageing Spawners makes a spawner break once it has produced a set number of mobs, with whitelist and blacklist modes that decide which spawners are affected.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2 – 26.3

What it does

In whitelist mode only the spawners for listed mobs disappear after their spawn limit. A whitelist entry takes the form minecraft:pig, which applies the default limit from the whitelist section, or minecraft:pig;5, which sets five spawns before the block breaks. Any mob not on the list keeps its spawner indefinitely.

Blacklist mode reverses that logic: every spawner breaks after its limit except those for mobs named in the blacklist section. Blacklist entries only need the mob's registry name, such as minecraft:pig, with no count. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, and its source code and issue tracker are public.

The mod runs on Forge and NeoForge and needs both the server and every player to have it. Files cover 26 release versions across the range 1.12.2 – 26.3; the latest Forge build is 2.0.0 for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge build is 13.0.0 for 26.3. Configuration is stored in the serverconfig folder inside the world, and newer builds for 1.16.5 and later keep it in the regular config folder.

Key features

  1. Spawn limit per spawner

Each spawner can be given a fixed number of spawns before it breaks, set per mob in the list.

  2. Whitelist mode

Only spawners for the listed mobs are removed, so every other spawner keeps working as normal.

  3. Blacklist mode

Every spawner is removed after its limit except those for the mobs listed as exempt.

  4. Default spawn count

A whitelist entry without a number falls back to the maxSpawnCount value in the whitelist section.

Use cases

Limiting farms

Server owners can cap how many mobs a spawner produces, so a single spawner cannot supply an unlimited mob farm.

Targeted mob control

Whitelist mode lets a server limit only a few mob types while leaving the rest of the spawners untouched.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want spawners to run out over time, and players in single-player worlds who prefer spawners to have a finite output.

Questions

Does Ageing Spawners need to be installed on the client?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Where is the configuration stored?

Configuration is stored in the serverconfig folder inside the world. Newer builds for 1.16.5 and later keep it in the regular config folder.

How does a server set a custom spawn count for one mob?

Add a number after the mob name in the whitelist, for example minecraft:pig;5. Entries without a number use the maxSpawnCount value from the whitelist section.
