Flint Skip
by Cukkoo
Flint Skip lets a player throw a Flint across water so it bounces, with the number of skips set by the timing of the throw.
What it does
Holding a Flint in the main hand and holding right-click starts a timing meter. Releasing the click near the green center produces a stronger throw, and aiming slightly downward toward open water helps the stone travel flat across the surface. A good timing and a shallow angle together give the most skips, and a near-perfect throw can reach the maximum of 20 skips. The flint is shown as a horizontally spinning projectile.
In Survival and Adventure a throw consumes one Flint. When the throw ends, the flint drops as an item where it lands and sinks, so the player can retrieve it from the water bed. Flint that lands in lava is lost for good. In Creative mode throws consume nothing and the flint is not dropped.
The mod is built for Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.1, under the MIT License, and is open source. It runs on the client and the server, so both sides need the mod installed. The source code and the issue tracker are public.
Key features
Timing meter
Holding right-click fills a meter, and releasing near the green center gives a stronger throw.
Skip ripples
Well-timed throws at a shallow angle bounce across water for up to 20 skips.
Spinning projectile
The flint flies as a horizontally spinning projectile, adding a small stone-skipping mechanic to the game.
Retrievable flint
A thrown flint that sinks drops as an item, so it can be picked up again in Survival and Adventure.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Water crossings
Players skipping flint across lakes and rivers for a quick trick rather than a building task.
Casual play
Players who want a small, skill-based activity alongside the normal survival loop.
Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want a skill-based throwing mechanic on 1.21.1, and server owners who run Fabric on that version.
How it compares
Half Night Skip is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21.11, so players can join without installing it. Gravel to Flint is client and server, under the MIT License, and covers 1.21.1 – 1.21.8, a range that includes 1.21.1. Legit sleep is also client and server under the MIT License, but only for 1.21.11, and it changes sleeping rather than throwing.
