Chat Notify

by TerminalMC

With Chat Notify, a player can set triggers that play a sound and highlight a chat message whenever a matching line arrives.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.19.3 – 26.3

What it does

Chat Notify keeps a list of notifications, and each notification holds one or more triggers. When a new chat message arrives, the mod checks the triggers of each notification in turn. A notification fires only when its triggers match, and a firing notification can play a sound, highlight the message or send a response message.

Triggers can use plain text, regular expressions, or key-type patterns. Inclusion triggers require every listed trigger to match, while exclusion triggers block a notification when any of them match. Sound volume and pitch can be set per notification, and a trigger editor shows recent chat lines so a pattern can be tested before it is saved.

The mod is client-side only, so servers do not need it and players can use it on any server. It needs Fabric API and Mod Menu, and it is open source under the Apache License 2.0. Files cover 1.19.3 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and snapshot builds are published.

Key features

  1. Custom triggers

Triggers can match plain text, regular expressions or key-type patterns, so a notification can fire on exactly the messages wanted.

  2. Built-in and resourcepack sounds

A notification can play any built-in sound effect or a sound supplied by a resourcepack.

  3. Per-notification audio

Each notification has its own sound volume and pitch, set separately from the other notifications.

  4. Message highlighting

Matched text can be recolored with a color picker and format controls, and a style target chooses which part of the message is highlighted.

  5. Inclusion and exclusion lists

Extra triggers can require that all of them match, or that none of them match, before a notification fires.

  6. Response messages and key commands

A notification can send an automatic reply in chat or trigger a CommandKey when it fires.

Use cases

Catching mentions in busy chat

A player in a large server can get an audible alert only when their own name or a chosen keyword appears.

Tracking a specific chat pattern

A regular expression trigger can watch for lines in a set format, such as a trade offer or a server announcement.

Who it’s for: Players who are active in multiplayer chat and want alerts for particular messages, and players who prefer precise pattern matching over a simple name ping.
