Chat Highlight & Sound
by Catomon
With Chat Highlight & Sound installed, messages containing a player's name or chosen keywords change color and can trigger a sound.
What it does
Chat Highlight & Sound, shortened to CHAS, colors and plays sounds for chat messages. Highlighting can apply to every message or to specific keywords, and the player's own name is one of the triggers the mod watches. Each setting lets the player pick a color and a sound for the matching messages.
The mod is a client-side tool, so it changes only how one player sees and hears the chat. Nothing needs to be installed on a server, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 10 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.3. The code is not open source, and all rights are reserved by the author, Catomon.
Key features
Keyword highlighting
Specific words typed in chat can be given their own text color so they stand out in a busy conversation.
Message sounds
A chosen sound plays when a matching message arrives, so a mention can be heard without watching the chat.
Configuration screen
Settings open with the U key on Fabric, from the Mods menu on Forge, or with the /chas or /chathighlightandsound command.
Global or keyword rules
Colors and sounds can apply to all messages or only to specific keywords, set separately for each rule.

Use cases
Catching mentions in busy chat
A player in a large server can set their name as a keyword so replies addressed to them are colored and announced by a sound.
Following a single topic
A player can give a chosen word a fixed color so every mention of it in a channel is simple to spot while other messages stay plain.
Who it’s for: Players who follow busy multiplayer chat or want a sound when their name or a topic word appears. Only the player's own client needs the mod, so it suits anyone who does not manage a server.

Restore Chat Links is client-side and open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, for 1.19.2 – 26.3, and it targets chat links rather than colors and sounds.
