AutoTorch!

by Nikrecs

AutoTorch! places a torch on the ground under the player when the local light level drops below a set threshold, so cave and underground exploration stays lit without manual placement.

What it does

The mod is a client-side quality-of-life addition that watches the light level at the player's position. When the light falls under a configured threshold, from 0 to 15, it places a torch on the ground under the feet and skips spots where no valid support block exists. A placement cooldown measured in ticks stops torches from being spammed in quick succession, and only torches standing on solid ground are counted. Players can switch automatic placement on or off whenever needed.

Inventory Pull takes torches from anywhere in the inventory, including the hotbar and the offhand slot, so the player does not have to select one first. After a torch is placed, the previously selected hotbar slot is restored. Every behavior is adjustable in the in-game configuration screen, reachable from the mod list menu, which also offers a reset to default values. AutoTorch! runs client-side only, so the server needs no installation. It works in singleplayer and on multiplayer servers, and it requires Architectury API on Fabric and NeoForge. Forge builds need the additional dependencies listed with the files.

Key features

  1. Automatic torch placement

Torches are placed under the feet when local light drops below the configured threshold, keeping dark passages visible.

  2. Light threshold setting

The light level that triggers placement can be set from 0 to 15, so players choose how dark an area must become first.

  3. Inventory pull

Torches are drawn from the hotbar, offhand or any inventory slot, and the previous hotbar selection is restored afterward.

  4. Support and ground checks

Placement happens only on a valid support block and only when the player stands on solid ground.

  5. Cooldown and reset

A cooldown in ticks prevents torch spam, and every option can be restored to its default values from the configuration screen.

What the author says

Client-side quality-of-life mod that automatically places a torch at your feet when it gets too dark. It is perfect for exploring caves, mines, and large dark structures where you want automatic lighting without the hassle of constantly placing torches manually.
