Aequitas
by zelythia
Aequitas lets players trade items through a shared resource called essence, which can be gathered with a special bowl and converted into other items.
What it does
Every item in the game can be given an essence value, and essence can be turned into other items through crafting. Players collect essence with a Collection Bowl, and Sampling Pedestals help read which items hold value. Essence is described as a mythical resource that is crafted into strong armor and tools, so it links the early and late parts of a world.
The mod ships an in-game Essence Guide, and its values are calculated from recipes, which lets it cover almost any mod that adds items. Integration with Autotools, WTHIT, REI, EMI and Patchouli is listed, and native integration with custom values is included for content from several other mods.
Aequitas is a client and server mod, so the server and every player need it. Fabric API is required, and Fabric and Quilt files exist for 1.20 – 1.21.1. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the 1.21.1 builds are dated 2024-11-02.
Key features
Essence as trade currency
Items can be exchanged freely through essence, so a player does not need a direct recipe to get a wanted item.
Collection Bowl
A special bowl collects essence from items, giving players a way to gather the resource without a separate machine.
Sampling Pedestals
Pedestals sample items to determine their essence value, which is how the conversion values are set.
Recipe-based values
Essence values are calculated from crafting recipes, so items from other mods are included without manual setup.
In-game Essence Guide
A guide inside the game explains essence values and conversion, and a Gameplay Guide and Development Guide are also provided.

Use cases
Modpacks with many mods
Recipe-based values let a single essence system cover items added by different mods in one pack.
Who it’s for: Players who want a shared conversion system across mods, and modpack authors who need essence values for mods that add their own items.
How it compares
Better Combat Bewitchment Compatibility is server required with an optional client, MIT licensed and built for 1.20.1 on Fabric and Quilt, so it is a server add-on rather than a gameplay system. Bewitchment is client and server, licensed under All rights reserved and also limited to 1.20.1, so it adds magic content rather than an essence trade.

What the author says
In Minecraft, everything is made out of a special essence. With Aequitas you are able to freely exchange this essence and convert every item into other items using Crafting and Sampling Pedestals. You are also able to collect the essence using special Collection Bowl and create items from "nothing".
