AutoTools
by zelythia
With AutoTools installed, the player presses a key and the mod swaps to the tool that suits the block or mob in front of them.
What it does
AutoTools scans the whole inventory and picks a tool for the target by mining speed, mining level, enchantments and damage per second. Preferences can be set per block: silk touch is favored for blocks where it matters and fortune for others, and shears are always chosen for shears. The mod is available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the Fabric build integrates with ModMenu.
Cloth Config API and Fabric API are required on Fabric, and Cloth Config API is required for the other loaders. The mod is entirely client-side, so players install it alone and it works on servers and alongside many third-party mods. Game versions run 1.16 – 26.3 across 35 release versions, and the code is under the MIT License, so the project is open source.
Key features
Tool selection by stats
The tool is chosen by mining speed, mining level, enchantments and attack damage, so the fastest or strongest option is picked.
Toggle and creative handling
An always-on mode can be turned on or off with a key, and creative mode can be excluded from automatic switching.
Hotbar options
The search can be limited to the hotbar, and a hotbar tool is preferred when several tools tie on mining speed.
Durability and slot behavior
A tool with no durability can be used when no suitable tool remains, and the selected slot can be kept instead of the vanilla swap.
Per-block configuration
Config files set which tool type each block prefers, and every option can be edited through the Cloth Config UI.

Who it’s for: Players who want fewer manual tool swaps during mining and combat, and server owners who want to offer that convenience to clients.
