QuickEquip
by StaticLabs
QuickEquip swaps in a replacement tool from the inventory when the one in hand breaks, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
What it does
When a tool breaks, QuickEquip searches the inventory for a tool of the same type and places it in the hand, so mining or chopping continues without a pause. The choice follows tool tier, from netherite down to wood, and then remaining durability and enchantments such as Efficiency and Unbreaking. Keeping backup tools of the same type in the inventory lets the swap happen with no interruption. A player can switch the feature off at any time by pressing R, and the inventory stays open while the replacement happens.
The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for game versions 1.20.1 – 26.1.1, and snapshot builds are published as well. The server must run it, while players may leave it out. Files marked beta exist for each loader, and the latest build targets 26.1.1, dated 2026-02-15. QuickEquip is released under All rights reserved and is not open source. Its first release came on 2025-07-21 and the last update on 2026-02-15.
Key features
Automatic tool replacement
A broken tool is replaced at once by a tool of the same type from the inventory, so mining or chopping does not stop.
Ranked selection
The replacement is ranked by tier, durability left and enchantments, so the strongest remaining option is chosen.
Toggle key
Pressing R switches the automatic replacement off or on at any moment during play.
Works with open inventory
The swap happens without closing the inventory screen, so a player can keep organizing items while working.

How it compares
Auto Tool Switch is a client-side only mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.17.1 – 26.2, under All rights reserved. Don't Break Items works on Forge and NeoForge for 1.19.2 – 1.21.1 and needs both client and server, while QuickEquip needs only the server. Auto Tool Switch works on the client alone, so it differs from QuickEquip in where it runs.

What the author says
QuickEquip is a small Minecraft Forge mod that helps you keep moving. When one of your tools breaks (like a pickaxe or axe), this mod automatically finds a similar tool in your inventory and puts it in your hand. You don’t have to pause or open your inventory. It just works.
