VintageFix
by embeddedt
A Forge mod for 1.12.2, VintageFix cuts memory use and load time through reworked model loading and blockstate handling.
What it does
The mod targets two areas of startup and runtime cost. Blockstate and model handling uses modified versions of FerriteCore's optimizations, which lowers memory use. A reworked dynamic resources approach loads models on demand rather than all at game startup.
Its design is a leaner successor to an earlier optimization mod with a similar goal. A required library must be installed alongside it. The author advises against OptiFine, since it may cause rendering glitches and extend launch time, and recommends the latest CensoredASM over NormalASM.
Files exist only for Forge 1.12.2, with 0.7.2 as the latest build, published on 2026-10-05. The first release came out on 2023-06-06. The mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and its source code and issue tracker are public. Either side can run it, and neither needs it.
Key features
Lower memory use
Modified blockstate and model optimizations reduce the RAM the game needs while running.
On-demand model loading
Models are loaded as they are needed rather than all at game startup, which trims load time.
Compact design
The mod keeps its scope narrow and focused on startup and memory cost, with a similar goal to an earlier optimization mod.
Required library
A required dependency must be installed for the mod to load, and CensoredASM is the recommended ASM library.

Use cases
Large modpacks
Packs with many models and mods can start faster and use less memory on 1.12.2.
Low-memory systems
Players with limited RAM can use the mod to reduce the memory footprint of the game.
Who it’s for: Players and pack authors running Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge who want lower memory use and faster startup. Server owners may run it, though it is optional on the server.
How it compares
NormalASM Continued is client-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and available for Forge 1.12.2. FermiumASM is a client and server mod under the same license, also for Forge 1.12.2. Nothirium is client-side only for Forge 1.12.2, but it is not open source and is licensed as All rights reserved.

It provides significant memory usage benefits and reduces load time a bit as well. This is accomplished by incorporating modified versions of FerriteCore's blockstate/model optimizations…
