ArchaicFix

by embeddedt

ArchaicFix is a Forge bugfix and optimization mod for Minecraft 1.7.10 that collects fixes for vanilla behavior and performance in one package.

What it does

The mod targets client-side stuttering in 1.7.10, which is most noticeable in biomes with many light updates such as jungles. It includes a backport of a lighting engine, since its original repository is no longer available, and an improved occlusion culling system that is disabled by default because it is not compatible with OptiFine or Forge Coremod-based options.

Threaded chunk updates reduce the hitch that appears when blocks are placed, and they are likewise disabled by default for the same compatibility reason. Beyond these systems the mod patches many vanilla issues and a few common annoyances in other mods. ArchaicFix requires UniMixins on every install, and it is published for Forge in 1.7.10 only, with 0.8.0 as the latest file from 2026-05-21. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so it is open source.

Key features

  1. Client stutter reduction

Reduces the stutter caused by light updates, especially in biomes with dense lighting changes.

  2. Occlusion culling

An improved culling pass that skips hidden geometry; it is off by default and gated behind a config option.

  3. Threaded chunk updates

Moves chunk update work onto separate threads to smooth out the hitch when blocks are placed.

  4. Vanilla and mod patches

Fixes a range of vanilla bugs and patches several common issues in other mods.

Questions

Does the server need ArchaicFix?

No. A server can run without it, and it can also be added on the server for its server-side fixes.

Why is occlusion culling off by default?

The improved occlusion culling and threaded chunk updates are not compatible with OptiFine or Forge Coremod-based options, so they are disabled by default and can be turned on through the config.

What the author says

Additionally, ArchaicFix patches a few common annoyances in other mods. Newer versions of ArchaicFix require a GTNHMixins-compatible mixin loader like UniMixins to be installed.
