FoamFix

by asie

Players with large modpacks who notice heavy memory use can install FoamFix, which applies a set of targeted optimizations to modded Minecraft.

FabricForgeClient or server, optionalCustom license1.7.10 – 1.14

What it does

FoamFix targets memory use and a handful of performance hotspots that appear once many mods are loaded. Its changes are narrow by design: each one addresses a specific part of the game rather than replacing core systems. Other, smaller optimizations are also included, and the foamfix.cfg file lists every option.

Files exist for Fabric and Forge across the 1.7.10 – 1.14 range, with the newest Fabric build, 0.12.1, covering 1.14. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. The mod is not open source; it is released under a custom license, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Targeted memory optimizations

Reduces memory overhead in areas that grow heavy in large modded installations.

  2. Adjustable options

Individual optimizations can be switched on or off in foamfix.cfg to isolate their effect.

  3. Minor performance changes

Smaller fixes address less visible parts of the game, which the config file documents one by one.

  4. Known incompatibilities

The author lists mods that FoamFix does not support, so their interactions are not covered.

Use cases

Large modpacks

Packs with many mods are the setting the optimizations were written for.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners running heavily modded Minecraft on versions 1.7.10 – 1.14 who want lower memory use from targeted changes.

Questions

Does FoamFix need to be installed on the server?

No. Either the player or the server can install it, and both may leave it out.

Can FoamFix be used with every mod?

No. The author lists mods that are not supported, and fixes for interactions with them are not assured.

What should a player check if a bug appears with FoamFix installed?

Reproduce the bug with FoamFix removed first. If it persists without FoamFix, the cause is most likely another mod.

What the author says

FoamFix is a mod designed to optimize certain aspects of a modded Minecraft experience using simple, targeted optimizations. There are also other, more minor optimizations, but they will probably not have a significant impact on your gameplay directly. Check your foamfix.cfg file for a complete list!
