LazyDFU
by astei
Startup time for Minecraft on Fabric can be shortened by LazyDFU, which postpones part of the DataFixerUpper setup until a world actually needs converting.
What it does
DataFixerUpper, usually shortened to DFU, handles converting worlds from older Minecraft versions to newer ones. It starts before the game window appears, and during that setup it builds conversion rules for every version between the old and the launched one. That work runs in the background but is heavy on the CPU and memory. LazyDFU lets DFU start, but stops it from caching all of those rules up front, so they are compiled only when a world conversion requires them.
Because the rules are built on demand, a conversion may pause briefly the first time it runs, while the migration rules are compiled. Afterwards there is no ongoing cost. Open source under the MIT License, the mod works on the client and on the server, so either side can use it. Builds cover 1.14 – 1.20.6, and version 0.1.3 adds a client-side step that stops the client from initializing every rule.
Key features
Deferred rule caching
DFU is allowed to start, but the conversion rules are not cached during startup and are compiled only when needed.
Client-side rule baking disabled
From version 0.1.3, the client's native rule baking is turned into a no-op, so the client skips initializing all DFU rules by default.
Lower memory use at launch
Because the rule caching is skipped at startup, the background work that is heavy on the CPU and memory does not run before the title screen.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
1.20.x7 of 7 versions with builds

Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Faster startup on slower machines
On hardware with fewer CPU cores or less memory, the DFU rule caching step can take many seconds, and deferring it shortens the wait before the title screen.

What the author says
LazyDFU is an optimization mod for Minecraft that defers unnecessary initialization work so that it is only performed if required. Specifically, it makes the initialization of DataFixerUpper "lazy" - that is, it will not immediately create the rules required to migrate data from older versions of Minecraft to newer…
