What it does

Forked from NormalASM, FermiumASM targets memory use in large packs and applies multiple performance changes. It removes the internal Spark profiling code, which the author found incompatible with the updated fork Spark Unforged, and leaves room for better profiling through other tools. User-facing logging and branding were changed to FermiumASM, and questionable content from the original fork lineage was removed.

FermiumASM replaces the mixin loading of MixinBooter with the alternative mixin loading provided by FermiumBooter, which is required and must be installed alongside it. The mod also folds in functionality that the original FermiumASM could not combine with VanillaFix and TexFix, and the author reports that it has been tested in an active modpack. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only and is open source, and its source code and issue tracker are public. Files cover 1.12.2 alone, with the latest Forge file, 5.31, published on 2026-03-11.

Key features

  1. Lower RAM usage

Changes aimed at memory consumption are the main focus, with the largest effect expected in larger modpacks.

  2. Performance improvements

Several separate performance changes are included in the mod for 1.12.2 installations.

  3. Spark profiling removed

Internal Spark profiling code is stripped out, so the separate Spark Unforged fork can be used for profiling.

  4. Rebranded logging

Logs and user-facing text show the FermiumASM name and icon, separating the mod from the original lineage.
