Universal Graves
by Patbox
Players who die leave behind a grave, and Universal Graves lets server owners customise how those graves are created, filled and reached.
What it does
When a player dies, the mod places a grave block that holds the items the player was carrying. Its contents, cost and placement rules are set through data files written in the predicate, cost and item stack formats, so a server can decide which items are kept, what a player must pay to recover them, and which conditions trigger a grave.
The mod works purely on servers, so players join without installing anything. It requires Polymer, which handles the blocks and items clients see. Graves are supported on Fabric and Quilt only. A player with the universal graves.teleport permission can teleport to any grave, which suits administrators who need to recover items for others.
Universal Graves is published under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker. Files cover 34 release versions, 1.17 – 26.3, and snapshot builds are published as well.
Key features
Custom grave rules
Data files set which items a grave holds and under which conditions a grave is created after a death.
Cost to recover
A server can require a cost to open or retrieve the items in a grave, using the cost format in its data.
Predicate conditions
Predicates decide when a grave is placed, so behaviour can depend on the situation of the death.
Teleport permission
Players holding the universal graves.teleport permission can travel to any grave on the server.

Use cases
Server recovery rules
Server owners can tune grave contents and costs to fit their own survival rules.
Administrator recovery
Staff with the teleport permission can reach any grave to return items to a player.
Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators running Fabric or Quilt servers who want to adjust how player graves work. Players only need the mod on the server.
How it compares
Basically Graves is open source under the MIT License, runs on Fabric and Quilt for 1.19 – 1.21.11, and needs client and server installs. Simple Graves is not open source; it is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only, covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.20 – 26.1.2, and needs the server while clients may skip it. Way to Grave is not open source and uses a Creative Commons license that forbids commercial use.
