Simple Graves
by quillphen
After death, Simple Graves keeps a player's dropped items in a grave block that only the owner can open.
What it does
Simple Graves is a Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt mod for storage and survival play, shipped alongside a vanilla Java datapack. When a player dies, the fresh item drops nearby are captured and frozen above a grave marker, so the items survive despawn and pickup by other players. The mod is server required and client optional, so the server must run it while players may leave it out. Builds exist for 1.20 – 26.1.2, with 1.0.0+mod for 26.1.2 as the latest file, and the mod is not open source; it is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only.
Owner-locked graves suit multiplayer servers, where another player cannot take the contents. Breaking the grave block is how the owner gets the items back, and any other player who breaks it receives a message about ownership while the grave returns to its place. Explosions restore the grave block instead of auto-claiming the items, and admin bypass works with trusted recovery helpers. Snapshot builds are also published. Common deaths such as falls, mobs, drowning and normal combat leave drops that survive long enough to be captured.
Key features
Captured death drops
Items dropped at the moment of death are frozen above a grave marker and protected from pickup and despawn.
Owner-locked graves
Only the player who died can reclaim the contents, which keeps graves safe on shared servers.
Break to reclaim
Breaking the grave block returns the items to its owner, and a message tells other players who try.
Explosion-safe restore
After an explosion the grave block is restored rather than its items being claimed automatically.

How it compares
Way to Grave runs on server side with client optional, is not open source and is published for 1.21.5 – 26.3 under a Creative Commons non-commercial license, so its range reaches further forward. Universal Graves is server-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and covers 1.17 – 26.3. Riftbone needs client and server together, is open source under the MIT License and targets 1.21.1 – 26.1.2.
