TimeScaleLib

by ImmortalDamned

TimeScaleLib is a Forge and NeoForge library that slows or speeds up the game world for bullet-time effects, while the player keeps normal control.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverCustom license1.20.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

The library changes how fast the world runs, with a multiplier that ranges from zero up to normal speed. Unlike the vanilla tick rate command, it scales the flow of the world itself rather than only non-player entities, which keeps slow-motion effects more natural and leaves the player's own input responsive. An optional total duration in ticks sets how long the effect lasts, with the default of -1 meaning it continues until removed.

When the effect ends, the library restores normal speed through a smooth recovery transition over the final 20 ticks of a timed run. It includes built-in commands for applying and removing time scale effects, and a rendering-compatible PartialTick API so visuals stay aligned. Support for movement of specified entities under the scale is included, along with compatibility for several combat gameplay systems. ParCoolSkill uses the library to provide its bullet-time effects, and DodgeBulletTime also requires it.

The library runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 and 1.21.11. It is released under a custom license and is not open source; public links to source code and an issue tracker are available.

Key features

  1. Independent time scaling

A time scale system works independently of the rest of the world's tick processing, so effects can be layered without a global rate change.

  2. Smooth recovery

Effects end with a gradual transition back to normal speed rather than an abrupt jump, over the last 20 ticks.

  3. Built-in commands

Commands apply a time scale effect, set its multiplier and duration, or remove active effects from the world.

  4. Entity movement support

Specified entities can move under the scaled time flow, so slowed enemies and projectiles follow the same rate.
